 1750 to 1850 was the greatest period for ukiyo-e art. The Prodigious genius of Hokusai is expressed in 30 000 marvellous prints that have left an indelible impact on Japanese art.  Even if Hiroshige’s work is not innovative like that of Hokusai, he still managed to instantly communicate the sensations induced by Japanese landscape.

After Caffi and Tiziano Palazzo Crepadona is hosting a great exhibition dedicated to Andrea Brustolon, the famous artist from Belluno. The exhibition includes sacred and secular works with precious decorative features. There will be over 100 wooden creations that run through the evolution of sculpture.  The exhibition will be enriched with external itineraries in a type of spread out museum with the aim of including large works and altar-pieces that are difficult to transport, the most famous being in the Duomo and the local churches of Santo Stefano and San Pietro.

The Museo Correr will be host to an exhibition dedicated to the centenary of the futurist movement.  Even today its artistic message maintains its originality and the power of innovation in the first great Italian avant-garde movement, founded by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in 1909.

The Stresa Festival has reopened its doors the public with “I Concerti di Primavera” (Spring Concerts). There will be five open-air musical appointments every weekend of May held in the parks that overlook Lake Maggiore.

 

FABBRICA EUROPA FESTIVAL

Fabbrica Europa is an International Festival that will take place at Stazione Leopolda di Firenze and will host artists and international dance, music and theatre groups as well displays of contemporary art. The projects presented are all original pieces.  The festival aims to encourage the exchange of ideas and works with the conviction that intercultural dialogue is a fundamental instrument in order to understand and value differences in the creative atmosphere.

IL PALIO DI FERRARA

 The Palio di San Giorgio is the oldest event of its kind in the world and was officially founded in 1279 when the Comune di Ferrrara codified in its laws the local tradition of games and celebrations that began in 1259 and still continues to animate the city in the month of May.

NOTE: 22nd March-3rd May there will be the “Omaggio al Duca” (Tribute to the Duke) at the Castello Estense.  From 9th - 30th May there will be events in preparation for the finals.

In keeping with the celebrations of the International year of Astronomy, Palazzo Strozzo is hosting an exhibition that has been entirely dedicated to Galileo and his astronomical discoveries that were achieved thanks to the telescope.  Four hundred years on from the first observation of the Universe, the International Astronomical Union has organized a series of worldwide events to celebrate a discipline that has had and still has a profound impact on our culture and our knowledge of life and its evolution.

 

CY TWOMBLY

Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea

The GNAM is paying tribute to Cy Twombly, considered to be one of the most important painters still alive.  The exhibition will include around 100 works, and although it is a retrospective of the 50s, it is focused on the great collection of canvases that make up the series of cycles of the post war years until the Quattro Stagioni series to conclude with paintings of Bacchus.  This is an event to celebrate Twombly’s 80 years who has chosen Rome and the Mediterranean as his adopted homeland.

   Jana Vodesil-Baruffi was born in Czech Republic and in 1981 she emigrated to Australia. She has been interested in art since childhood. She became a successful artist living in Perth, Western Australia. In 1987 she held her first solo exhibition in Australia. The 5th exhibition she hold in October 2008. Since April 2009 Jana is traveling throughout Italy, painting as well as enjoying the history, culture, art, music, architecture, fashion, food and art and generally absorbing the Italian lifestyle. She has began the year in Italy running a successful art tour for art lovers and students from Australia. 27 people traveled to paint and share Jana’s love of Italy. Currently she is staying in Tresivio, a small village very close to Sondrio. She admires the mountains, wonderfully friendly people and local lifestyle. Last weekend Jana participated in Scarpatetti art festival in Sondrio. It has been a joyful weekend, meeting other artists, artisans and many wonderful people who came to admire the art. She felt extremely privileged to be given such an opportunity to show her art and it has been certainly the highlight of her travels so far. She is preparing for solo exhibition in Arezzo in October and later in her travels in Sondrio. In addition she is also getting ready to exhibit with the gallery in New York in 2001 as well as showing her Italian love affair works in Perth late in 2010.
