The UWC of the Adriatic, Duino
(Trieste) in Italy, in conjunction with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is offering one full scholarship to complete an International Baccalaureate, commencing in September 2009. This is a full scholarship and will cover all tuition, insurance and board. Parents pay for travel expenses and pocket money. Academic courses at the Adriatic College are taught in English. All students at the College are required to study Italian. The aim of the Diploma programme is to combine a liberal education in a range of disciplines with the opportunity to study a limited number of subjects in depth. To be eligible for a scholarship you must be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident of Italian descent and be eligible for an Italian passport (possession of an Italian passport is not required). Interviews for all states will be held on Sunday 26 April 2009. Candidates selected for interview will be notified as soon as possible. Selection Criteria Successful candidates must be aged 16 or 17 in Year 11 or 12 (or equivalent) and demonstrate strong academic strengths which indicate a likelihood of success in the IB program; willingness to befriend and learn from people whose ideas, beliefs and cultural backgrounds may be very different to their own; the ability to be a good ambassador for Australia in the environment of a UWC; the ability to gain the most from the opportunity and to contribute to college life (relevant qualities include commitment to service, open mindedness, enthusiasm, balance, good humour, the ability to thrive in a foreign environment, emotional strength, and physical fitness). Finally, candidates must be active contributors to the life of their school or wider community; involvement in cultural, artistic or sporting activities.
