"PERMESSO DI SOGGIORNO" 

WHEN  HOLDING  A VISA TO  STAY IN ITALY FOR MORE THAN 90 DAYS

THE PERMESSO DI SOGGIORNO IS REQUIRED  FOR :

Within 8 days from your arrival in Italy you must go to the Post office and ask for  THE YELLOW FORM  KIT - BUSTA GIALLA KIT .

Then, you fill the form following the instructions inside the envelope.

- Pay at the Post office € 27.50 filling the post office draft "bollettino di conto corrente postale" and paying at the Post office counter.

 - Ask at the counter for a duty stamp of  14.62

- Fill the  form for mailing the envelope

- Present at the Post office counter the yellow envelope containing the application form, the receipt for the payment of  € 27.50 and the duty stamp. In this moment you  also pay in cash € 30.

- The Post office clerk will give you the receipt as  evidence that you  have posted  the yellow  envelope.

- You will later receive a registered letter with which the Immigration Office is giving you the appointment to see them  to give you personally the plastic card with your identification details and electonic photograph. That is your  " permesso di soggiorno"card.

How Long can Australian Tourists Stay in Italy ?

An Australian citizen may remain as a tourist in Italy  - as with all other EU states under the Schengen Agreement - for a total of 90 days within a a six month period. 

Declaration of Presence

Italian law requires tourist staying less than 90 days to complete a dichiarazione di presenza(declaration of presence).  Australians arriving form a non-Schengen country should obtain a stamp in their passport at the airport on the day of arrival.

This stamp is the eqivalent of the declaration of presence.

Any Australian citizen staying beyond 90 days, if not in possession of a visa issued in Australia by the Italian Embassy in Canberra or Italian Consular offices in major Australian cities, before leaving Australia, may be subject to punishment by expulsion  or to a fine  and criminal record at the time of departure from any Schengen country.

Laws and Legal Difficulties

While in a foreign country an Australian citizen is subject to that country's laws and regulations, which may differ from those in Australia.

Person violating Italian law, even unknowingly, may be expelled, arrested or imprisoned. If arrested, contact  the Australian Embassy in Rome immediately.

Busta Gialla - Yellow Envelope Ask at the "Sportello Amico" counter at the  Post office  for the "Busta Gialla" - Yellow Envelope"  kit , It is a pre-addressed envelope,  containig the application for and instructions to procede with the application.
  Bollettino di conto corrente postale You will find in the envelope the payment form "bollettino conto corrente postale" tha you have to fill and present to the Post Office conter to pay € 27.50  Ask at the same time for a duty stamp of  € 14.62

The bollettino postale has two receipt, keep one portion  for yourself, attach  the other together with the duty stamp on the applicatio form,  in the yellow envelope.

Receipt Make sure that the pre-addressed yellow envelope contain the application form with the duty stamp of  €14.62,  the receipt of the  27.50  . Fill the registration mail form and go to the Post Office conter for mailing the yellow envelope.

 

The Post Office counter clerk  will ask you to show your Australian passport to identify you.

The registered receipt contains on the left the password/code  number that will enable you to check the position of your application through  a free phone call  848.855.888( local call cost)   Mon-Fri from 8am to 8 pm

Your Permit - Electronic ID card You will be called through a registered letter by the Immigration Department to present yourself  to hand over to you personally  your ID  electronic card  which is your PERMESSO DI SOGGIORNO the document   that will make  true your  dream of a happy and fulfilling life in Italy.
